Barpak, Gorkha region, March 2017.
High in the mountains of the Gorkha region in Nepal, Barpak lies Barpak. A small village which became sadly famous as the epicenter of the 7,9 earthquake that shook the country on April 25th 2015.
More than 70 villagers lost their lives in the tragedy. Rescue and aid mission were particularly difficult because of the geographic situation of the village. All the roads were destroyed and the only way to reach the village was by helicopter or more than three days walk in the mountains.
Even after a lot of support from NGOs and promises of help by the Nepalese government, Barpak is far from being fully rebuilt. Some people still live in tents, waiting to have the money to rebuilt their houses and there is constant construction all over the village.
